In the news section this week, as well as a bevy of Nintendo news there was briefly cross-platform play in Fortnite between users on Xbox One and PlayStation 4, over the weekend, Polygon reported and Epic Games confirmed today.

Gamers in the Fortnite subreddit spotted what they thought was cross-console play in the co-op sandbox survival game over the weekend. While others were skeptical that Xbox One users and PlayStation 4 users were in fact playing together (thinking someone had mistaken a PC gamertag for an Xbox Live handle), an Epic representative said this afternoon that that’s exactly what was happening.

“We had a configuration issue and it has now been corrected,” the spokesperson said.

This is unusual because, while Microsoft opened the Xbox platform to cross-platform play last year beginning with Rocket League, Sony has been resistant to letting PlayStation 4 gamers share an ecosystem with Xbox One.

Another Rough Week For Sony and PlayStation

This week it’s been a rough week again for Sony as they have continued to release details of their new PS4 console, the PS4 Pro to a lukewarm response and have had to defend the decision not to include a HD Blu-ray drive in the Pro version of the console.

The week didn’t get any better as Shuhei Yoshida announced via the PlayStation Blog that The Last Guardian has been delayed until 6th December 2016.  On the blog post, Shuhei wrote:

The Last Guardian development team is fast approaching major milestones in production and has made the tough decision to delay the release of The Last Guardian a few weeks. The Last Guardian will launch on December 6, 2016.

Fumito Ueda, gen DESIGN and JAPAN Studio have a wonderful vision for The Last Guardian’s touching, emotional journey of friendship and trust, and we want to deliver the most polished experience possible for our fans who have supported us for so long. A delay is a difficult decision, particularly with this game, but we have encountered more bugs than anticipated while in the final stages of development. To ensure that The Last Guardian delivers on the experience that the game’s creators have envisioned, we need to take the extra time to work on those issues.

But it’s not all bad news because for Sony as they have shipped the lasted update to the PlayStation 4, the PlayStation 4.00 update offers gamers a refreshed system UI, Folder organization, updates to the Quick Menu and Share Menu, Library improvements, and much more!

A big feature also available in this update for those with the HDR compatible TV is the rollout of HDR to ALL PlayStation 4s.  Unfortunately as we quickly found out that even though the PS4 is now HDR capable there are no games or content currently available to test it out. Continue reading
